Firstly, where is your cam?pus located?
Col?larts is located at 55 Brady Street South Mel?bourne, right on the edge of Melbourne?s cre?ative indus?tries and enter?tain?ment precinct.
Why should prospec?tive stu?dents around the coun?try con?sider study?ing at Col?larts?
Firstly, we?re located in Mel?bourne which is fast becom?ing the heart of the Aus?tralian enter?tain?ment and music indus?try, where oppor?tu?ni?ties for expo?sure are bound?less. Col?larts prides itself on pro?duc?ing indus?try ready grad?u?ates, young musi?cians, pro?duc?ers and man?agers who have the skills, expe?ri?ence and con?fi?dence to join the music or enter?tain?ment indus?tries and cre?ate a career. Our stu?dents learn through a prac?ti?cal approach that com?bines the use of state-of-the-art equip?ment and access to teach?ers and train?ers who have them?selves main?tained their indus?try connections.
What skills can stu?dents hope to acquire from the Con?tem?po?rary Music Per?for?mance degree?
There are four things that a Col?larts stu?dent can expect to gain from their stud?ies. Firstly, Col?larts trains its stu?dents to be musi?cians and musi?cal. A Col?larts stu?dent should be able to per?form in any style or genre when asked. While all stu?dents have their favourite style or genre, the secret to estab?lish?ing a career in the indus?try is being com?pe?tent, flex?i?ble and will?ing to work when work is offered.
The third aspect is less obvi?ous but as impor?tant as being able to play. A careers as a musi?cian is far more com?pli?cated than just being able to play an instru?ment or sing. Most musi?cians also need to be able to run a busi?ness ? the busi?ness of them?selves. So along with the musi?cian?ship and the per?for?mance skills come a range of skills in time and per?sonal man?age?ment, finan?cial man?age?ment and law, mar?ket?ing, pro?mo?tions and pub?lic?ity. These are core skills no less impor?tant than being able to play well if they are to be successful.
Finally, Col?larts stu?dents will ben?e?fit from meet?ing a range of music indus?try pro?fes?sions dur?ing their course. This exposes them to the true depth and breadth of the indus?try and helps them begin to form a range of indus?try contacts.
What kind of posi?tions or roles will grad?u?ates be qual?i?fied to work in?
Many stu?dents use their stud?ies as a foun?da?tion to the career they dream of as per?form?ers, song?writ?ers and pro?duc?ers. Devel?op?ing these aspects of an indi?vid?u?als career will take some time fol?low?ing grad?u?a?tion. In the mean?time our grad?u?ates will be work?ing with a vari?ety of bands or as a soloist. Some grad?u?ates will join organ?i?sa?tions in the indus?try work?ing in pro?duc?tion or man?age?ment, while oth?ers will look to develop a teach?ing prac?tice or con?tinue on with fur?ther musi?cal studies.
