The Top Three Choices When Going to a Surrey Golf Club

Wentworth?s West Golf Course. A default for this list, many agree. This Surrey golf club has played host to a most imposing list of tournaments, including the Ryder Cup, the Canada Cup, the HSBC World Matchplay and the BMW PGA Championship. First opened in 1926, this champion among Surrey golf courses was originally crafted by the designing genius of Harry Colt and has since been updated twice by PGA golfer Ernie Els to lengthen several holes and add fresh bunkers in certain places, modifications rendered obligatory due to the technological improvements that now permit golfers to drive the ball off the tee much further than ever before. A parkland of heath surrounded by lush groves of pine, birch, and oak trees, it is a 7308-yard par 72 18-hole course only 15 minutes away from Heathrow and carrying all the luxurious amenities one may expect of such a top-level club.

Walton Heath Golf Club. This golf course has two sections, the Old and New, which were created by Herbert Fowler and are entangled with each other. There are several heather beds here that demand expert skill to conquer, and a good selection of truly difficult holes, including a terrifically high-level one at 391 yards and par four. Its hosting history is admirable and includes the Ryder Cup, several European Opens, and even more News of the World Matchplay Championships. The New course is at 7026 yards while the Old is at 7462 yards par 72. Be advised that no motorised carts are for hire here and that it does not have a driving range, unlike the Wentworth West.

The Addington. Secluded and dreamlike, the Addington?s beautiful fairways edged with oak, birch, cedar and beech are a lesson in aesthetics for golf course designers, especially when viewed with the dells spread about them and the peacocks that may sometimes be seen trotting about the area. This lovely Surrey golf club has even rated a reference by the famous writer, PG Wodehouse, which would undoubtedly please its designer, J.F. Abercromby, who is even now considered one of the maestros of golf course design. For an old-world and visually-indulgent touch in your golfing day, this 6388-yard par 71 18-hole course is the definitive choice among Surrey golf courses.

Besides these three, there are other courses you may wish to investigate when looking for an excellent Surrey golf club. Some other superb Surrey golf courses include the Tandridge, the West Hill Golf Club, the East Wentworth, the Foxhills, the West Surrey, and the breathtaking Wisley Golf Club. Be advised that prices vary greatly amongst these courses, so you should be sure to look up their current rates on the Internet, as most of them have websites to advise you on that score.
