PHOENIX?Coming this fall, SCAN Health Plan Arizona is offering a variety of health and fitness classes to seniors. Classes are open to SCAN members and the general public; registration is free, but space is limited. All classes are held at the SCAN Connections Resource Center at 1313 E. Osborn Road in Phoenix, unless otherwise noted. Anyone interested in attending may call 602-778-3420. Fall classes are as follows:
?Remaining active and informed is vital for a healthier, more enjoyable life at any age.?
- Easy Tai Chi? A form of moving energy derived from Chinese martial arts. It consists of a series of slow, fluid movements done softly and gently using breathing techniques for healthy biorhythms.
- Sun Lakes Country Club (25630 South Brentwood Drive in Sun Lakes) ? 10-week series, every Monday from 9:15 ? 10:15 a.m. Session runs Sept. 12 through Nov. 14.
- SCAN Connections Resource Center ? 11-week series, every Tuesday from 9:30 ? 10:30 a.m. Session runs Sept. 6 through Nov. 15.
- Intermediate Tai Chi
- SCAN Connections Resource Center ? 11-week series, every Tuesday from 11 a.m. ? noon. Session runs Sept. 6 through Nov. 15.
- Zumba Plus? A Latin-inspired dance and fitness class for those 50 plus.
- SCAN Connections Resource Center ? 11-week series, every Thursday from 12:30 ? 1:30 p.m. Session runs Sept. 8 through Nov. 17.
- Yoga for Every Body, Mind and Soul ? A gentle yoga class specifically designed for seniors with movement disorders. Students will develop an overall sense of well-being, improved mobility and confidence.
- SCAN Connections Resource Center ? 11-week series, every Thursday from 2 ? 3 p.m. Session runs Sept. 8 through Nov. 17.
As part of its ?Classroom in the Community? health promotion program, SCAN Health Plan Arizona offers informative hour-long presentations. They are available free to all seniors and their caregivers, are often presented in both English and Spanish, and are held at the SCAN Connections Resource Center. In September SCAN will present ?Active Every Day,? a program that discusses physical activity guidelines for older adults and the risks of inactivity, on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 10 ? 11 a.m. in English and again from 1 ? 2 p.m. in Spanish.
